The turquoise and sterling silver medallion are a superb representation of the Navajo Jewelry Art and Tradition… The Chavez have been making jewelry for decades and decades. Their jewelry is INIMITABLE. The medallion is 5.5″ wide/high and 2.5″ long. It is sublime combination of turquoise, of colors, of emotion. The central stone is a 2.5 long canyon going through the immensity of America, the golden brown matrix of the Southwest… The Green of the forest… And there is this pure jewel: A river running down there, at the bottom of the canyon, which appears and disappears. Intense winding turquoise as essential as water conquering its hosting matrix. The artist knew how to showcase the brilliance of the stone by choosing the deepest turquoise to frame it: The MORENCI. The leaves, the swirls, the sterling silver beads make an intricate net with the glowing blue and green stones. The medallion is stunning. The color combination – blue/green terracotta and silver – and the combination of materials – natural stone, polished sterling and brut leather- make for an OUTSTANDING piece. The leather band is IDEAL for the medallion. It is a very earthy leather band. It has the color of the Land, it has the feel of the Land here in the Southwest. It has a terracotta tone with a matte finish, elegant and refine. There is an exquisite texture to it with a large pebbled touch. It is a Bison leather with a very pliable feel and distressed style, with its raw edges. The band is between 2″ and 4″ wide. Its individual shape is adapted to the medallion, wider in the middle… And to the wrist, tapered on the sides.. Furthermore it does not take 10 people or a fight to close it. It is ultra simple with the round “bead”. The 2 holes in the leather band are placed at 6 3/4″ and 7.5″ to fit a small wrist, around 6, and a medium wrist. Custom measure leather bands can be made upon request. Because the sterling silver and turquoise medallion is a unique piece of jewelry all by itself, it CAN EASILY BE REMOVED..
