It’s a delight to bring you this marvelous hand made ranger belt buckle set by the legendary Navajo silversmith Fred Peshlakai! Subsequently he plied his trade in several shops around the West before opening his own successful businesses in Los Angeles and Utah. He had a tremendous influence on Navajo silver work, and passed on his knowledge to students who became well-respected in their own right (Kenneth Begay pops to mind). There’s very little of his work to be had for any price–grab this rare chance to add one of his pieces to your collection! The buckle measures 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″; the keeper is 1″ x 1/2″; the tip is 1 1/8″ x 3/4″. The reverse of the buckle is signed with Peshlakai’s “FP” and arrow hallmark; in P & K Messier’s fine volume Reassessing Hallmarks of Native Southwest Jewelry (Schiffer Publishing, 2014), p. 77, there is a good bio of Peshlakai and a photo of this hallmark. Buckle, keeper, and tip all test as sterling silver. The set will accommodate leather 3/4 wide. The stones measure 1/2 the long way; as you see 2 stones have cracks (one in the buckle, one in the keeper), but all the stones are secure in their settings. The tooled leather belt is 43″ long with adjustment holes from 36″ to 38; the belt shows signs of use but it still has life left in it; it’s very supple.
