You are viewing a vintage, hand-crafted c. 1960 NAVAJO NATIVE-AMERICAN 925 STERLING SILVER SQUASH BLOSSOM ROYSTON TURQUOISE NECKLACE. The turquoise stones are not resin-enhanced in any way (which is actually an acceptable process, but was not used in this case). The turquoise stones are all genuine and natural!!! The matrix veins shimmer in the light; often called aventurescence. The entire necklace is handcrafted using only handheld tools. No electric machine was used in making this amazing necklace! As you can see, this necklace has ten (10) classic “pomegranate” style ornaments and large inverted naja (crescent). This necklace is 24 from end to end not including length of naja. Naja is about 2.75″ wide; and about 2.5″ tall. The largest of the ten “pomegranate” ornaments are about 1.5″ long and 13/16″ widest point. The smallest being about 1 3/8″ long and about 11/16″ wide. Please view all photos as they let you know what you will receive and are the primary and integral part of the description. The weight of the necklace is stabilized by use of a sterling silver chain to hold the necklace together as opposed to string or fishing wire used on light-weight necklaces. This necklace weighs a substantial 185 grams! Keep in mind, this is NOT a newly-made squash blossom necklace; it is approximately 50 years old! Many of these necklaces were made back in the 60’s and 70’s because the demand was so high like any other fad… And they weren’t cheap! I remember seeing these necklaces at hippie head shops in my younger days. I recall thinking, Who’s gonna wear that huge thing? !! I was always amazed at the intricacy of the work involved in Native American jewelry. If I did, they were pretty much worn by big scary-looking biker dudes. These necklaces were looked upon as collectible art displayed in glass showcases or in wall frames… Or tucked away in storage… Like the one you are viewing right now. Keep in mind, you are purchasing a piece of history. The price of these necklaces may have dropped dramatically, but the history behind them are priceless. I would suggest you do an internet search to get a little knowledge on the “birth” of squash blossom necklaces back in the late 1800s. It’s good reading!
