Native American Sterling Silver Old Edgar #8 Turquoise Cuff by Sunshine Reeves
Up for your consideration from my personal collection of quality Native American art is this vintage Sunshine Reeves cuff which features a stunning Old Edgar #8 natural and untreated turquoise blue cabochon with traditional caramel spider web matrix from Eureka County, Nevada. This type of vintage Sunshine Reeves cuff is getting harder and harder to find as they are being bought up by foreigners and have all but disappeared from the market. Width of cuff: 1 and 2/16th. Inside Measurement: Slightly over 5-1/2″ (5 and 9/16th”). My wrist measures 7 and it fits me perfectly. Unless you are experienced with Native American jewelry, do not attempt to adjust this cuff which is made of heavy gauge sterling silver. The very finest types of turquoise aren’t cheap and there are a lot of fakes out there masquerading as turquoise and sometimes as very expensive turquoise. If you are a collector of the finest in rare classic southwestern turquoise, then you’re likely familiar with. Old Edgar #8 Turquoise, some of the finest quality spider web turquoise ever found in Nevada. It is from this cache of highly collectible and now quite expensive high grade multi hued robin’s egg blue spider web nodules that the gorgeous natural #8 in this cuff comes from. After Lander Blue, the top grades of #8 Old Edgar like this stone are considered the most valuable turquoise in the world because of it’s hardness, color, matrix, and scarcity and it is the second most expensive per carat after Lander Blue. It is unquestionably investment quality turquoise. This old style cuff has the typical polished finish that acclaimed Navajo artist Sunshine Reeves mostly uses. The cuff features a teardrop shaped robins egg blue rare and valuable #8 Edgar stone with an excellent spider web matrix and amazingly intricate and ornate hand stamped V shaped mountain designs in the center running from the bezel to the terminal. Sunshine added a sterling silver twisted rope overlay around the stone and an engraved and scalloped eagle feather fan array accented with a three dimensional hand stamped conical sunburst bead on either side of the bezel. Set in solid sterling silver with depictions of the sun, lightning, and other forces of nature. The stamp work in this piece is both time consuming and labor intensive to produce making each piece a true one of a kind work of art. Sunshine Reeves’s hallmark and sterling stamp are on back of the cuff. Today Old Edgar #8 Turquoise is one of the most valuable stones that can be collected, and high grade #8 Turquoise like the stone in this cuff is by far some of the finest turquoise to ever come out of Nevada.
