This is a very old Squash Blossom necklace.. It dates from the Fred Harvey era, 1900 – 1955. Probably before 1930 when the jewelry was neither signed or stamped. It is a simple piece with just the essential. There is the Naja in the center, around 2″ x 2″. The 6 little blossoms are delightful with gorgeous little turquoise. The stamping is typical of the period. The blossoms are 1 1/4″ x 1/4″. There are two rows of sterling silver beads on 14″ length, then a single strand of 5″ on each end. The necklace is 24 long. The beads are almost 3/8 diameter, 8mm. The squash blossom is rare… It is not a massive hard to wear piece. It is more like a necklace, with the perfect length to wear casually, even if it is a truly collectible piece! I found it at the “Gathering of Nations”, the biggest Pow Wow with 500 tribes represented, thousands of people… The most talented dancers, costumes and feathers. And so much jewelry! While admiring a huge inlay Kachina bolo tie I noticed that the Navajo lady had by her, in an old box half open, this special necklace. At first she did not want to let it go… Then I got lucky! It weighs 80 grams. It is strung on a cotton cord. The item “NAVAJO FRED HARVEY ERA SQUASH BLOSSOM TURQUOISE, STERLING SILVER” is in sale since Monday, May 09, 2016.
