NATIVE AMERICAN BRACELET CUFF. I truly have never seen a sterling silver cuff so big.. It is not even big or huge anymore, it is more on the insane side! When Tom Begay showed it to me I had to yell, a little bit afraid as if it was alive.. Because this is a cuff our dear old man had hidden from his own family.. The NAVAJO artist TOM BEGAY has been making jewelry for all his very long life, getting close to a century… All this time he stayed fidel to the traditional original Navajo style. He is an old fashioned artist. With the wise wrinkles engraved on his face, his few words of English, and his trembling hands, he keeps the tradition alive. He has Kingman turquoise almost since they started mining Kingman! Kingman is his favorite turquoise… And his favorite English word. If you ask him which mine a turquoise comes from his answer is inevitable Kingman, Kingman… With a twinkle in his eye.. And for this cuff yes I do believe him, the turquoise are KINGMAN TURQUOISE. 3″ LONG x 2 1/4″ WIDE EACH! They are blue with dark gray matrix. The bracelet is almost the length of my forearm. The shanks are rather small. He must have made it for himself of thinking of somebody his size.. This is a special piece, obviously impressive if even Tom Begay’s family could be impressed.. It is 6 3/4 long. It is 2 3/4 wide. The inside of the cuff is 5.5″ + 1″ gap – It is adjustable, a little bit, carefully! It WEIGHS 244 grams.
