This Southwest Native American top quality turquoise necklace is a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship. Its gorgeous symmetry, large stones and generous sterling silver, make this squash blossom necklace a one of a kind. Features intricate hand wrought sterling silver beading (double strand) and floral work with natural Kingman mine turquoise in serrated bezels. There are beautiful applied leaves with florals and blossoms with rain beads. Each squash blossom necklace is a unique work of art. The Kingman Turquoise mine in northwestern Arizona was one of the largest turquoise mines in North America. The terms “Kingman” or “high blue” refer to the blue color usually displayed in this stone. Kingman Turquoise is known for its beautiful sky blue color. It has become a color standard in the industry. The mine became famous for its rounded, bright blue nuggets with black matrix. Few turquoise mines produced nuggets, especially of this quality. Old natural Kingman Arizona Turquoise is rare. Each Native American artist has taken the squash blossom necklace and made it their own, leaving the stamp of their creativity on the design. This attention to detail and blending of tradition with artistry is what makes the squash blossom necklace such a valued piece of jewelry. This exquisite necklace is hand stamped by Navajo silversmiths Robert Noreen Kelly in a circle with their feather hallmark and 925 below the feather. The squash blossom necklace as a jewelry style has been around for quite a while. It was a favored piece of Native American jewelry in the 1970s, which led to a boom in its creation. Though it is made by Pueblo artists as well, the squash blossom necklace has come to be associated most of the time with Navajo silversmiths. The necklace consists of silver beads formed into the shape of a flower with a crescent-shaped pendant known as a naja in the center. This necklace has five flowers on each side of the naja for a total of ten. Turquoise gem stone is a stone of self realization helping you to better understand yourself, your ideas and emotions. It is a wonderful aid in regards to any type of analytical thinking. In fact, some Native cultures hold the belief that by wearing it the human mind becomes one with the universe. Turquoise resonates to Archangel Michael, the Archangel of protection, courage and truth. It is the birthstone of December. The naja measures 3 1/4″ wide x 3 1/2″ tall. The 18 Kingman mine turquoise gems are about 7/8″ tall x 3/8″ wide. Weighs 8.40 ounces or 239 grams. I had this piece professionally polished because I wear it often and it looks beautiful this way. You can see the workmanship much better with the original, glorious shine of silver. A must have for the serious Vintage Native American collector or anyone who wants to own an utterly amazing piece of jewelry! Its priced to sell and won’t last long.
