Navajo Elongated Green Turquoise Silver Ring 1940's Vintage Tucson Estate
From a Casas Adobes estate in Tucson which had a distinctly mid century vibe is this Navajo ingot silver ring with an elongated 35.5×6.5mm green turquoise centerpiece flanked by silver drop embellishment. The band is traditionally crafted with split “fingers” at the shoulders. Construction and aesthetic are consistent with an at least 1940’s or so dating, which is actually within the time frame of so called Fred Harvey ornaments meant specifically for visitors. That said and to be clear, the obviously vintage look here is far less of that sort than the kind favored by locals. Such joys were once a pawn case staple at those historic trading posts in the hinterlands. While a few post card rest stops are still there, the available rings don’t look like this anymore. Weight is very good for the form at about 6.4 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite good with an aura of time to the surfaces. The stone shows nice patination and an ancient worn over fracture across its middle. Those who know understand this is a typical thing with these older finger ornaments – especially with a stone like this. Put another way, all signs of genuine period finger duty simply validate the history. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Ring size is about 7 on my jeweler’s ring mandrel (the bottom edge of the shank reaches that line on the mandrel). About 1 7/16 in. Vertical at the front – and yes it will be noticed. If you prefer less mainstream adornment from the southwest long ago, or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you.
