NATIVE AMERICAN BRACELET CUFF. This is a Big Blue almost round turquoise. It is all about the big stone.. It is made by the NAVAJO artist TOM BEGAY. He is the master of the big turquoise! He has been collecting turquoise all his life, by buckets, for years… And he has been making jewelry for so long. Always staying fidel to the traditional original NAVAJO style. Tom Begay has deep wrinkles engraved on his face to tell his age, trembling hands to show years and years of work… And yet, just a few English words, to prove his attachment to the Navajo tradition. Today, once in a while, he picks up one of these enormous stones… And transforms the brut rough in a magical Tom Begay’s turquoise. He carves it, polishes it and calls it a Kingman. Because for him they are all Kingman! Or he just gives me the same answer each time I ask him, just to please me… Or because he plainly does not understand the question! And this “Kingman” turquoise is a beauty. Please understand that it could be a Kingman, who knows!!! It has a soft bright luminous blue. It is a medium tone blue with something watery about it. It feels like a big wave with the golden veins surfing the current. The stone has something very sweet, the Dolce Vita of the turquoise.. The shape of the stone is almost round, around 2 3/4″ long and 2 1/4″ wide. It is a thick stone, domed gently, carved by the artist. The turquoise is one these turquoise giving a feeling of fulfillment, happiness.. The setting is a conventional traditional sterling silver work, the one Tom Begay’s favors. There is a twisted chain rope around the stone, then a half round, chiseled on each side. This is all about the turquoise. The face of the cuff is 3.5″ x 2 3/4″. The sterling silver shanks are 5.5″ inside + 1.5″ gap. The cuff is easy to adjust, carefully! It WEIGHS 123 grams.
